If you’re looking for a tough tablet you won’t find anything tougher than a Panasonic Toughbook convertible tablet. Not all of them are fully rugged, but currently, two of the best are.
So just how tough are these convertible tablets?
Panasonic Toughbook Convertible Tablets
There are currently three Panasonic “convertible tablets” on the market:
- Panasonic’s first fully-rugged hybrid CF-20 originally launched in 2015, that is due for an upgrade relaunch towards the end of 2018.
- The Panasonic CF-33, a mission-critical two-in-one laptop and tablet launched mid-2017.
- The semi-rugged Toughpad FZ-Q2, which is a tablet with a keyboard rather than a laptop incorporating a detachable screen.
While all three are commonly referred to as convertible tablets or 2-in-1s, only the first two are Toughbooks. The Q2 is an enterprise-grade Toughpad – or tablet – that has a slightly larger anti-reflective touchscreen than most Toughpads have, and is supplied with its own keyboard. Still, all three are convertible tablets, although only the first two are fully rugged – and therefore tougher than the semi-rugged Toughpad.
Panasonic Toughbook 20
Claiming undisputed fame for being the world’s first fully rugged laptop with a detachable keyboard, the Toughbook 20 is also Panasonic’s leading mobile solution right now.
The CF-20 Mk1 has a 10.1-inch sunlight-viewable touch screen and it weighs just 3.9 lbs, and it can be used with or without gloves. It’s been through the full gamut of tests to ensure ultimate toughness that will ensure it withstands drops up to four foot, shocks of all kinds including temperature, rain, vibration, dust, sand, high and low altitudes, freeze and thaw, humidity, and even explosive atmospheres.
The device has an integrated second battery as well as smart card, barcode, fingerprint, magstripe, and serial options. An optional bridge battery allows users to hot-swap the removable battery so that the Toughbook can be used continuously.
Its small size, light weight, and tough design make the CF-20 highly versatile. It is suitable for anyone operating in the field, from building inspectors to emergency medical, fire fighters, and all other first responders.
Panasonic Toughbook 33
The fully-hybrid Panasonic Toughbook 33 is a sixth-generation device and is unquestionably the most robust Touchbook available at this time.
The CF-33 Mk1 has a 12-inch screen that is 50 percent brighter and 15 percent bigger than any other mobile device in its class. Like the CF-20, it has been designed to meet stringent military standards in shocking conditions, and can also be dropped from as high as four foot without fear of damage. Because it is bigger than the CF-20, the CF-33 weighs more at 6.1 lbs.
In keeping with the smaller CF-20, it has a number of integrated options including a serial port, fingerprint, barcode, and smart card reader. It has a twin-battery that enables users to hot swap from one to the other while the device is in use.
Developed specifically for mobile workers, the CF-33 is the perfect choice for military, police, and healthcare workers who are frequently exposed to mission-critical environments. This extra-tough mobile device is particularly versatile and it can be customized to meet the specific needs of a very wide variety of customers.
